Ok- because I don't have 40 reading guides to do and a paper to write, I have plenty of time to be blasting Fox News for their biased coverage of anything! While the announcement of an 8.6% unemployment rate is certainly not something to jump for joy about, it does represent a slight trickle in the right direction. Fox News took an uncharacteristically thoughtful view of this news and noted that this drop in the unemployment rate was due partially to a large number of Americans dropping out of the labor force. This fact would have unquestionably been ignored had this news had broken with a Republican in office but it does represent a level of critical analysis that I had previously thought them incapable of. The Fox approach would have also been more convincing if it hadn't been cloaked in anti-Obama rhetoric and shameless propaganda but....I guess this is progress.
Later in the afternoon, the discussion of the job market was largely tabled and hidden below a headlining piece decrying the design flaws in one of our new tools of "defense". If you look to the red arrow you will find a blip about unemployment numbers. My hunch is that they perceived their "fair and balanced" approach to this topic might not be inflammatory enough for the typical Fox viewer or that the analytical approach they took exhibited a degree of journalistic sophistication that would be foreign to their readers and thus be ignored or misunderstood.
